The Importance of Regular Eye care

It is important to have regular eye examinations by a fully qualified optometrist.

Having poor eyesight not only restricts activities such as reading, driving, and watching TV, it can also indicate the presence of serious health problems. 

At Elliott Opticians we use the latest technology in disease detection. In addition to finding out if you need any form of vision correction, we carefully check the health of your eyes. 

We examine the back of the eye and try to detect conditions such as diabetes, retinal haemorrhage/clots or detachments and Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). We can show you computerised images of your eye and give you print outs for your GP.

Our OCT machine can take an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. Similar to ultrasound equipment, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to reveal the many layers that make up the back of the eye. OCT scanning can help detect many eye condition such as glaucoma and diabetes.

If there are any areas of concern identified, the optometrist may monitor the situation or refer you to a specialist.

At our practice we always take as much time as necessary to examine your eyes fully and answer any questions you have.

Most people need an eye exam every 2 years, although some people may need to be examined more often. Our optometrists will advise you how often you need to have your eyes examined.
